Why your website's tech stack matters
Whether you are checking a competitor, vetting an agency's work, or sizing up your own site before a redesign, knowing the technology behind a website tells you how fast, secure and future-proof it really is.
Speed, SEO & cost
The technology under a website decides how fast it loads, how well it ranks on Google, how easily it can grow, and how much it costs to run. A dated or locked stack quietly holds a business back long before anyone notices.
How the detection works
We read the page's public HTML, response headers and cookies and match them against fingerprints for popular frameworks, CMS platforms, e-commerce systems, CSS libraries, analytics and hosting — the same approach as Wappalyzer and BuiltWith, and free.
Change your stack
Stuck on a slow platform or a website builder you have outgrown? IT Boffins rebuild and migrate sites onto whatever stack fits the goal — protecting your content, URLs and search rankings along the way.
Tech stack detector FAQ
What is a website tech stack?
A tech stack is the combination of software a website is built and run with — the framework (such as React or Next.js), the CMS or builder (such as WordPress, Shopify or Wix), the styling (such as Tailwind or Bootstrap), the analytics tags, and the hosting or CDN. Knowing the stack tells you how flexible, fast and future-proof a site really is.
How does the Stack Detector work?
It loads the public version of the page, reads the HTML source, response headers and cookies, then matches them against signatures for popular technologies — the same fingerprinting approach used by tools like Wappalyzer and BuiltWith. It only ever looks at code that is already public, and never signs in or changes anything.
Can you change or migrate my website to a different stack?
Yes. IT Boffins rebuild and migrate sites onto whatever stack fits the goal — from a slow WordPress install to a fast custom React or Next.js build, or off a locked website builder onto a platform you fully own. We plan the move so your content, URLs and search rankings are protected.
Will changing my tech stack hurt my Google ranking?
It should not, when it is done properly. A careful migration keeps your URLs, content, metadata and redirects intact, and a faster, cleaner build usually improves Core Web Vitals and search visibility rather than harming it. The risk comes from rushed migrations, which is exactly what we plan around.
How accurate is the detection?
Detection is very reliable for technologies that leave a clear fingerprint in the page or headers. Some items are marked "likely" where the signal is strong but not certain, and a heavily client-rendered or bot-protected site can hide some details. For a definitive review, ask us for a full manual audit.
How do I find out what platform or CMS a website is built on?
Paste the website address into the box above and run the scan. Within seconds it tells you whether the site runs on WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Drupal or a custom framework like React or Next.js, alongside its analytics, CSS and hosting. No browser extension or sign-up needed.
Is the Stack Detector free to use?
Yes, it is completely free, with a fair-use limit of 5 checks per day so the tool stays fast for everyone. If you need to audit a larger set of sites, or want a deeper manual review, get in touch and we will help.
